Premier Gallant upset with Mayor Woodside over tweets repeating Gallant’s comments

Fredericton — Following the annual throne speech made Wednesday at the legislature, Premier Brian Gallant was forced to walk back comments made regarding jobs coming to Fredericton after Mayor Brad Woodside tweeted the comments following the speech.

First reported by CBC , the tweet by Mayor Woodside referenced “400 tech jobs” coming to the capitl region, which was first mentioned by Premier Gallant in the speech. The premier’s office quickly admitted the mistake.

“Frankly, we didn’t really expect anybody to pay attention,” an aide to the premier told The Manatee. “I mean, come on… who actually listens to the throne speech? We didn’t get any push-back from 2014’s promise to invent a perpetual motion machine, or last year’s promise to finally ban the use of ‘YOLO’ within New Brunswick’s borders, so we figured there was no statement too ridiculous to merit notice. Apparently, the promise of hundreds of tech jobs coming to Fredericton was simply one absurdity too far.

“With that said,” the aide continued, “we feel it is highly irresponsible for the mayor to repeat the premier’s comments without first allowing the premier to spin them into tiny soundbites so vague and obfuscated so as to render them essentially meaningless.”

Mayor Woodside issued his own mea culpa over Twitter, saying: “Sry for the mixup. Shit happens, amiright? lol #YOLO #PSYCH.”
