Premier Stephen McNeil locks out everyone in Nova Scotia

Halifax — “Nobody fucking do anything,” Nova Scotia Premier Stephen McNeil said to a press scrum at Government House on Dec. 3.

The premier had been facing questions relating to a decision to close all schools Dec. 5. The decision was in response to a Nova School Teachers’ Union (NSTU) work-to-rule action that McNeil said would potentially leave students unattended, thereby creating a “safety issue.”

The decision immediately came under fire as it was perceived as a lock-out of the students, while the teachers would be forced to show up to work Dec. 5 without anyone to teach. The decision also left Nova Scotia parents with barely 48 hours to make child-care arrangements.

“As of now, you’re all locked out,” said McNeil. “And if you keep up with this hostile line of questioning, your loved ones will be locked out, your pets… just try me.”

McNeil waited a moment then leaned again toward the microphone. “As of now, I’m the only one not locked out.” He took the “unlocked” opportunity to excuse himself from the room as the press remained “locked out” from doing anything.

“I just… I gotta think!” he screamed before the doors closed behind him.

  1. What’s the point of paying taxes if we can’t send our kids to school to be taught. Should we quit our jobs stay home and teach our kids. And the government pay us.

  3. Such finesse . Touchy !
If he should be angry, it should be at himself. He and Minister Casey have put themselves in the awkward position in which they find themselves. Let them lie in the beds they have made.

  4. All teachers want is a change to teach with proper resources. By locking out the students he proved the teachers are going above and beyond. They will alway go the extra mile for the kids. Get your act together Mr. McNeil.

  6. It NOW proves conclusively that the government believes the MAIN job/purpose of having teachers in schools is to act as baby sitters! Education is secondary! MacNeil wants to turn back the clock to the 1800’s and early 1900’s as far as teacher responsibilities are concerned. Are One room schools with grades 1 – 12, with one teacher, next?

Having met the Premier and having spoken with dozens of people in his riding who know his family we were proud to see him elected and to become premier. While not comfortable with the heavy handed way school was cancelled this blog owes the Premier an aplogy for their defamatory, jeuvenile comments.

  9. this article is not true. Mr. MacNeil was not speaking to any reporters at Government House on Dec. 3 because he was in Boston. Ms. Casey was there at the News Release but not the Premier.
