Alleged thieves who smashed vehicle into Bouctouche mall claim to have thought there was door-crasher sale

Bouctouche — RCMP are investigating an alleged break-and-enter at at jewelry store in Place Le Bourg in Bouctouche on Tuesday morning, but those accused of the crime are claiming to have heard there was a door-crasher sale going on and they were only trying to cash in on thousands of in-store specials.

“I saw it on the on Internet,” stated Henry James, who claims to have never attended a door-crasher sale before. “I was looking at pictures of ladies and then I saw this ad come up that said a jewelry store was having a ‘door crasher’ sale. I figured I’d better get in there.”

James couldn’t recall whether the advertisement specifically said the sale was happening at Trésor d’Or jewelry store in the Bouctouche mall.

“Well, I can’t say for sure,” he admitted. “But, it’s the only jewelry store that I know around here, so I figured it must be the one.”

James said that he then grabbed his wife, Lorena, and headed toward the mall.

“I figured it must be whoever crashes the door first gets the sale,” he detailed. “And so we got in the truck, drove to the mall and then just floored ‘er. Next thing ya know, I’m being arrested — I wasn’t even as drunk as I normally am!”

The mall manager confirmed that, luckily, the mall was empty at the time of the crash, as it’s a mall and people don’t really go to malls much anymore.

“There were a few lonely old people and that’s about it,” explained Karen Douglas, who has been managing the local shopping centre for 14 years. “And thankfully they were all down at the coffee shop talking about the weather and the accomplishments of their grandsons.”

RCMP said the investigation is ongoing.
