Fredericton — The Barr Brothers, a Montreal folk-rock band, are making a long-awaited appearance at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre tonight in Fredericton. The band is known for including experimental techniques and instruments in their performances such as bicycle wheels, chains, and something that looks like your grandma’s jewelry box.
Brad and Andrew Barr have reached out to the Anglican Diocese in hopes of using the building’s giant bells in tonight’s show.
“They would give us those extra eerie, beautiful tones that we love,” said Brad. “I mean, we love to shock, and where else can you find church bells these days!”
Merle Jacobs, regular cathedral bell-tuner, is ecstatic to shed some light on just what these bells are capable of.
“I think most Fredericton residents just tune them out,” he explained. “It’s about time they get the appreciation they deserve.” Jacobs has even offered to climb the thousand rickety steps to the top of the cathedral to help the band transport the bells to the performance location.
