Excerpts from a New Brunswick man’s diary

Sackville — RCMP are asking for the public’s help in finding the owner of a diary that was spotted close to the pond in Waterfowl Park in Sackville.

“I just found it sitting on a bench beside the pond,” explained Sherri Hovey, the Sackville resident who turned the item in to the RCMP. “I was walking my dog and just noticed a little book sitting there.”

The RCMP is releasing excerpts from the diary in hopes that someone may be able to identify its owner. The Manatee was able to obtain these excerpts before they are released to the general public next week.

May 5, 2014 (first entry): Dear Diary: Well, it’s time I put my degree to good use and find a job! Today is the day! Step 1: Today, I find a job and start my new career. Step 2: Use my success to convince some lucky lady that I’m worth marrying and having kids with. Step 3: A life of happiness. What a day to be starting my journey! The sun is shining, the birds are singing and there’s nowhere I’d rather be than in New Brunswick.

July 14, 2014: Well Diary, it’s taking me a little longer than expected to find my dream job. I’m thinking of being a little less picky in my job search for a while and taking one that isn’t exactly in my field but that I’ll still enjoy — just for a while to pay some bills. Another gorgeous day in New Brunswick — man I love this place!

Sept. 17, 2014: Still no luck on the job front. Luckily, I’ve been able to use some money left over from my loans to buy groceries and pay for my apartment. I’m thinking of downsizing.

Dec. 8, 2014: Busy day making Christmas presents for my parents today. Is it always so cold here? Geez. My new place is nice and I’ve made a few new friends that I’m living with. It reminds me of when I use to share my bedroom with my brothers — good times. I had an interview at Tim Hortons yesterday… I really hope it pans out; I just wish I would have been able to shower before I went. My loan is all dried up but one of the guys here said he’d pay my portion of the rent if I did him a favour later. Hopefully it’s nothing too tough.

Dec. 9, 2014: I need to figure out how to pay my own rent. I’m not doing that ever again.

Feb. 14, 2015: Happy Valentine’s Day, Diary. This is the most snow I’ve ever seen in my life. I called that Tim Hortons lady back this morning — what a bitch. My buddy said he thinks he can get me a job working out in Whitecourt with him, so I might be leaving next week, which is good because rent is coming due again. I’m starting to really hate this place.

March 6, 2015: Well, I’m back to good ol’ N.B. again. The whole Alberta thing wasn’t for me. My roommates were glad to see me, especially Tony who said he’d cover me another month. I’m thinking of moving back in with mom now that she broke it off with her boyfriend. She’d probably like the company, maybe I’ll call her.

March 7, 2015: Dear diary, I’m not talking to my mother ever again. She did say she’d send me some money, though.

April 15, 2015: I hate this place so much. I spent 6 years here getting my degree, becoming an expert in my field and I can’t even get a job at a fucking McDonalds! There’s so much snow, it’s cold as fuck and my mother cares more about her stupid boyfriend than she does her own son. Diary, I’m glad I still have you.

May 22, 2015: I hate New Brunswick.

Aug. 7, 2015 (Final entry): I can’t let Tony pay my rent again, I just can’t. I can’t find a job anywhere. I’ve passed out at least 200 resumés  in the last year. I hate New Brunswick so much, so, so much. I think I’m going to try something else. I don’t know what, but something.

If you have any information about the potential owner of this diary, you’re asked to contact the RCMP or call Tony at (506) 999-7834.
