Higgs publicly challenges 83-year-old actor Donald Sutherland to a fight

Fredericton — Not to be outdone by Ontario Premier Doug Ford, who recently became embroiled in a Twitter battle with actor Kiefer Sutherland, New Brunswick Premier Blaine Higgs took things to another level this morning by challenging Kiefer’s 83-year-old father, Donald Sutherland, to a UFC-style physical confrontation.

“I wanna challenge Donald Sutherland to fight in the octagon,” Higgs wrote in a Facebook post published to his public page earlier today. “Donald, if you dont [sic] take this fight your [sic] scared and you will never live it down.”

Higgs denied that his “beef” with the elder Sutherland had anything to do with the viral spat between Doug Ford and the younger Sutherland, which is currently ongoing and generating a great deal of publicity.

“No, it’s got nothing to do with that — why, are they fighting? See, I didn’t even know that,” said Higgs, shadowboxing a sandbag. “No, this is more personal than that. Were you aware that Donald was born in Saint John, but left when he was just a boy? What, did he think he was too good for us, or something? That’s all I want to know…then I want to punch him right in his big, stupid nose.”

Although Higgs has yet to explain how he intends to carry out this fight, or to what end, he assures that the challenge is “quite serious,” and asked that The Manatee publish several more of his unsolicited threats and obnoxious insults.

Don’t Look Now, Donnie, but I’m coming for you,” said Higgs, hitting his gloved hand. “I’m going to MASH that pretty face in.

“…Klute, too,” he added, after a moment. “That was another one of your movies. Oh, and weren’t you in Space Cowboys? Man, you just had hit after hit, didn’t you?”
