New Brunswick man petitions to remove red, orange, yellow from all government communications

Caraquet — Inspired by a petition by a concerned mom to force the province to close schools while under red alert level, a Caraquet man is starting his own to remove the colours yellow, orange and red from all future government communications.

“I don’t know about you, but I’ve had it with hearing about red alert, orange phase, yellow rules…” said Louis Pichette, whose petition includes the changing of the colours in the New Brunswick flag.

“I don’t want to even SEE those colours ever again. To hell with ROY, from now on, everything should be G-BIV. I’m no artist, but any means, but I took some of my kids markers and drew over a picture of the flag, and I think it could work.”

Pichette says his hatred of the colours could even affect how he votes.

“I’m a die-hard Liberal, but I don’t know if I’ll even be able to vote for them if they don’t pick a different colour. And if they don’t I guess it’s Green Party going forward. I can’t vote NDP, although that has nothing really to do with the colour orange. And I sure as hell ain’t going to vote for the Conservatives or People’s Alliance.”

When reached for comment via zoom, Robert Robichaud with the government’s Protocol Office immediately spit out his tea.

“What’s next? Change the official soil from Holmesville because people have been stuck at ’home’ for almost a year It’s tradition. If there is one thing you don’t change here, it’s tradition.”
