Quispamsis — Scandal is rocking the premier’s office today as New Brunswick Premier Blaine Higgs struggles to explain how a “Dick pic” was tweeted late last night from his verified Twitter account.
Just past 12:30 a.m. Atlantic time, Higgs purportedly tweeted a picture of the 26th premier of New Brunswick, Richard Bennett Hatfield, from his government BlackBerry cellular phone. Hatfield — known as “Dick” to his friends — was the longest serving premier in the province’s history, occupying the office from 1970 to 1987.
“I honestly don’t know what happened,” admitted an embarrassed Higgs. “I have lots of Dick pics on my phone. Some are bigger than others, some are really detailed, and honestly there’s a bunch of blurry ones too.

“But, I have no idea how this one was tweeted out to my Twitter followers. Honestly, I’m not very good with technology.
“For starters, it was late for me, I’m usually in bed by 9:30 p.m.,” recounted Higgs to a media scrum. “But, I had one too many glasses of Dr. Pepper yesterday and I couldn’t fall asleep. So, I started messing around on my phone, and eventually I was going through my Dick pics.
“I found one that I thought Flemming would like, so I tried to text message the Dick pic to him. I didn’t think it worked, so I just rolled over and went to sleep. When I woke up the next day, my phone was ‘blowing up’ as the kids say.”
When asked to explain why he has a collection of Dick pics on his government cellular phone, Higgs answered without hesitation.
“Look, I know it might seem weird to some people, but I’m really proud of my collection of Dick pics,” he said. “I have pictures from different time periods. I like to see how my Dick pics change over the years — from the time as a viral young go-getter right up to the point that he lost his mojo.
“I have Dick pics taken from all sorts of angles — close-ups, portraits, and especially lots of candids from some interesting situations! I even have a Dick pic taken with the Queen!”
Higgs paused for a second, surveying the reporters in the room. “C’mon folks, it’s not that funny.”
