Rural NBers start their own airline

Miramichi — A group of 40 lads from Miramichi announced Wednesday they purchased a used and decommissioned Boeing 737 aircraft from Air Canada; they pooled resources and are founding a new airline called BertaAir.

The men are among a growing number of New Brunswick residents who commute to the Alberta oilsands for work. Leon Rogers, president of BertaAir, announced at a press conference in Fort McMurray yesterday: “There ain’t nothing worse than wastin’ a full jesus day feelin’ like cattle being herded across the county every other week. Us lads decided enough is enough — we are going to fly ourselves.”

planeBertaAir plans to fly direct from Miramichi to Fort McMurray. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays the plane will fly east. Alternatively, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays it will go west. There will be no flights on Sundays.

“Our prices will be comparable to Air Canada and West Jet, but BertaAir will be a much different experience,” Rogers explained. “We don’t believe anyone from ‘the Chi’ is a flight risk, so there will be no security. Middle seats have been removed from the plane and — simply put — we encourage a good time. Keep your headphones in. Heck, put a case of Alpine at your feet and swill the whole way. We just don’t give a sh*t.”

Tickets will go on sale Feb. 1 on the new airline’s website, bertaair.ca.

  1. I was wondering if you guys were going to be recruiting flight attendants soon? I would love to come for an interview

  2. i also commute back and forth to Fort Mc, this seems like a good idea , but with no security checks and kind of do what you want on the flight attitude would make me feel very uneasy to say the least.

    All the best

I’m in, already got reservations for the maiden flight and i don’t even work in Fort Mac. Hell I don’t even care where this thing is flying to, I just wanna get in on some of that that “laid back flight plan”. I paid for a little extra for a first class premium ticket so now I get to hang out in the cockpit and drive for a bit if the pilot wanted to maybe go back to party with the regular Joe’s or have a leak or something. Sweeeet!

  6. I’ve always wanted to pilot a plane but have failed the pilot license test many times. Do you have a pilot trainee program?

    • To enter the trainee program you must answer two skill testing questions:1) If you are flying to Ft. Macmurray from Chi, which direction are you flying in? 2)Which seat is the captains , in the cockpit?

  12. I work offshore and we get weather delays on a reg. basis. Can you fly by once a week with a big hook hanging down to catch a bunch of us. We could have a big personell transfer basket on our helideck with a couple of helium filled balloons on wire ropes in the air. You would just have to drag the hook between the “goalposts” so to speak and away we go. Maybe you could pull us into the cargo bay if you rigged up a winch. It shouldnt be hard to find an operator.
