Saint John — Mel Brooks once said, “I’ve been accused of vulgarity. I say that’s bullshit.” Last week, Saint John’s mayor gave out a similar appraisal when confronted with offensive and outrageous comments on social media.
Now, after getting international praise for calling a homophobic jerk’s comments “bullshit” on Facebook, Mayor Don Darling has been encouraged to call out even more bullshit.
“It seems that people are tired of the political correctness that they usually see from politicians desperate for votes,” surmised Darling. “That person’s homophobic comments were despicable, backwards, and just plain awful. But, I can also see that there’s a thirst for straight talk on less important things, too.
“From now on, I’m going to go out of my way to call out a lot more bullshit!” he vowed. “For example, when you go to an ATM and get charged $3 for withdrawing a $20…that is pure bullshit! And it’s time someone in public office stood up and said so.
“Bags of chips that are 75 per cent air — bullshit! And shutting off your phone on an airplane — total bullshit! And preschool graduations — OMG bullshit!! Don’t try to stop me, I’m just getting warmed up!”
Other things Mayor Darling identified as bullshit include:
- Effin’ kale anything, but especially kale chips
- Virtually everything that comes out of Donald Trump’s face-hole
- Wet socks
- CBC Radio 3
- Adobe Flash updates
- Annual car registration fees
- “This video is not available in your region”
- Movie concession prices
