New Brunswick — Still reeling from the devastating storm that left more than 30,000 homes without power this weekend, many awoke on Monday morning to discover that they had been gifted free Christmas trees, several of which were delivered directly into their homes .
“Usually we put off getting our tree until the last minute, so this was a pleasant surprise,” said Fredericton local David Spoon, admiring the large maple tree embedded in his roof. “I mean, I wish it was a pine, but we’ll take it.”
It wasn’t just the capital city, either; rural areas of the province also got the full brunt of the Christmas cheer, like the home of Debbie Valmer, who, at 1 o’clock Monday morning, had an eight-foot spruce come crashing into her living room, sending shattered glass flying in all directions.
“Personally, I think it’s a Christmas miracle,” she said, lightly caressing the bandages over her eyes. “I can’t wait to see what it looks like in two to three months.”
Unfortunately, not everyone was as appreciative.
“Me, I’m a Jehovah’s Witness — so we don’t observe such traditions,” said Minto resident Cameron Hughes. “Besides, it broke three of my wife’s ribs. I must say, I don’t much care for this little stunt.”
Whatever, Grinch.
