Woman acutely aware of amount of ice cream in freezer

Halifax — Twenty-nine-year-old Halifax woman Karlie Corbett is “chronically aware” at all times of the ice cream sitting in her freezer, and exactly how much of said ice cream remains at any given time.

“It would be fair to say I’m hyper-conscious of it,” said the new mother, whose husband doesn’t seem to even recall they bought two litres of PC Loads of Chocolatey Peanut Butter Treats ice cream earlier this week, let alone how much of it is left.

“We’ll be sitting there watching TV in the evening — well he’ll be watching, but I’ll be pretending to watch, just silently willing him to go get the ice cream out so it’s not my fault. I’m usually not even listening to the show at all.”

Corbett thought for a minute and mused, “Yeah, it’s way better if he makes the first move to get it out. Then I can blame him for us being unhealthy.”

Corbett said that during the days she’ll be nursing the baby, doing laundry, or even trying to take a nap, but the presence of the ice cream is always at the forefront of her mind.

“I’ll keep wondering how many of those peanut butter chunks are left in it, and how good it would be to bite into one of those at this very moment,” she said, grabbing a spoon. “It’s so hot out and I’ve been pretty good this week — I deserve it.”

Corbett added that she’s also keenly mindful of the chips in the cupboard. “It’d be so easy to just go grab a handful right now — no one would notice. And why would it even matter? I’m an adult and I can do what I want.”
