New Brunswick — With an election on the horizon, New Brunswickers are being fed promises and predictions from candidates of every party. Current Premier Blaine Higgs is relying on his usual tactic of undermining others instead of doing anything positive for the province.

The biggest threat, he says, is the possibility of a Liberal minority government propped up by the Greens, who have a solid support system, especially among younger, left-leaning voters.

A Manatee reporter sat down with Higgs this morning in his office to hear his thoughts.

“If Holt and Coon team up, there’s no telling what kind of horrors await this province. It could be as bad as rights for transgender students, a true separation of the church from the government, spending our hard-earned surplus on trivialities like health care, taxing the Irvings fairly — or even stringent environmental protections. Ask yourself, is that the kind of world you want to live in?”

Our reporter had previously interviewed Luke Randall, a former Green candidate now supporting Holt’s Liberals in the Fredericton North riding. However, much of what he said was overshadowed by his unusual glasses frames, leaving us wondering why none of his close friends have told him how unflattering they are. Nonetheless, our reporter did catch Randall trying to shift blame onto David Coon, claiming he would back Higgs if necessary.

“I have said the opposite many times,” Coon told The Manatee in a written statement. “I would never work with Higgs and his policies that help no one but himself. And if I were to support a Liberal minority government, we would need to discuss my list of concerns and issues and work together to find solutions.”

Higgs has ignored every possibility except doom and gloom if his constituents vote anything other than Conservative.

“Think of all I’ve done for you, and all I’m promising!” he cried. “Forced treatment for drug addicts — who else is going to get them off the streets and out of sight? Not Susan Holt, and certainly not David Coon. And remember the pandemic? I was the one who put New Brunswick on the map by doing nothing. Don’t forget that!

“With a Holt-Coon government, all the good things like those flyers delivered by Canada Post saying God doesn’t make mistakes? You can kiss those goodbye. Holt and Coon would also rather pay doctors’ and nurses’ salaries instead of cutting HST — can you imagine??”

At that point, Higgs’s aide entered the room to administer the premier’s medicine.

“He gets like this sometimes…” said the aide, as Higgs begrudgingly popped a handful of pills and washed them down with a swig of strawberry Ensure.
