Saint John — Despite official bilingualism being New Brunswick’s main claim to fame, a Facebook page started by a Saint John man against bilingualism has quickly garnered overwhelming support from the province’s most stubbornly narrow-minded.

Dubbed a local hero, James McBird saw a problem, and decided to attack it head-on. “I applied for a job that required the candidate to be bilingual,” he said, “and I was turned down just because I don’t speak French. That got me thinking about the employment situation in this province. How are we proud English people supposed to get any jobs at all? Next thing you know I won’t be able to get work as a surgeon just because I didn’t go to some fancy ‘medical school’ or whatever. It’s tyranny.”

The Facebook group, “New Brunswick Referendum on Official Bilingualism 2014,” started by McBird already has more than 5,000 members who are prepared to fight tirelessly against New Brunswick being the only officially bilingual province, even though that will mean the only things left we’ve got going for us are snowbanks and the Hopewell Rocks.

The brave McBird and his legions of English-only advocates claim that the bilingualism program has failed to gain a firm foothold in the province, and should therefore be abandoned entirely. One group member, Sharon Hicks, defended their mandate, saying: “We’re NOT anti-French, we’re all about equality — you can read that right on the Facebook page. We want equality for all the people in this province who refuse to learn a new language or who just don’t want to deal with the French population.”

“That’s right,” exclaimed McBird. “We’re not against French or anything — we’re just against STUPID POLICIES AND LANGUAGE LAWS that don’t allow us to get the jobs we want with little effort or qualification. There should be fairness in New Brunswick for all the proud citizens of this province who aren’t bilingual and who take a stand against it out of fear and ignorance.”

Some bilingual New Brunswickers — as well as pretty well everyone who has read into the issue at all — have called the Facebook group a thinly veiled excuse for racism. According to the dictionary, racism is: a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human racial groups determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one’s own race is superior and has the right to dominate others or that a particular racial group is inferior to the others.

“How is this racism??” asked a clearly offended Todd Philips, a member of the group. “We’re merely trying to form a safe space where English people can openly discuss how our differences are inherent and make us superior … I mean … equal. Yeah, equal. We just want to have equal access to jobs we’re not necessarily qualified for based on the fact that we didn’t bother to learn French. The French have been taking jobs from hard-working English people for too long.”

McBird is aiming to overturn those “stupid” policies and laws that make New Brunswick bilingual and distinct among the rest of Canada. “If you’re looking to enact change in legislation, you have to go right to the source — Facebook,” he valiantly explained. “Soon, those lawmakers will see the support and endless comments from other people like me who don’t know — and don’t care to know — why bilingualism is so important in New Brunswick.”

Luckily for McBird, new legislation will be launched in March, dictating that politicians must constantly check Facebook on their computers or phones to see what their constituents are talking about.

“We’re constantly checking our phones and creeping on Facebook, we might as well make it officially something we do as our jobs,” said Premier Brian Gallant at the Legislature on Friday morning, without looking up from his BlackBerry Z10.

  1. Wow, seriously? Did you even take the time to look at the face book page Shauna Chase, or were you resting your hopes for a successful story based on half truths and sensationalism. Nice to know the manatee is making a home for former SUN news employees…

  2. This is less about bilingualism than the current real problem that bilingualism has turned into. I used to be fluently bilingual and am probably 50% of the way back to being bilingual but I can’t get a job in any area I am qualified for. What I am seeing after I interview is the new face that was hired for the position at the workplace as being French with minimal (if any) English skills. Calling them bilingual is a larger stretch than me saying I am bilingual. The current reality in Bathurst is that you have to be fluently Bilingual for the job, unless you speak French and a few English words. That is how official Bilingualism is being used by the Francophones to discriminate against those who are primarily Anglophone. It was actually easier finding a job in Montreal, than here in Bathurst, despite the fact that according to census results there is a higher percentage of the population who claim English only than French only.

  3. This is obviously published by French people. What a joke. This kind of thing is exactly why English citizens are standing up for their right to fairness and equal opportunity of government jobs. We were taught”French” in school but never enough to even get by. We should not be penalized that our government did not inform us that 30 years into the future we would be faced with the choice to take a year off our jobs to learn a new language to secure our jobs. Let’s face it the French we will learn in that year will never be good enough anyway. Whatever outlet it takes to stop this from happening is a good outlet, Facebook, CBC, etc. Couldn’t be any worse than wannabe failures writing this crap thinking they are journalist’s…

    1. I’m a French speaker and let me tell you that we don’t have better English classes at school then you with French classes. 😛 I’ve learn English with personnal immersion only; friends, travels, social activities… The way we learn French or English at school is sutable to about 4% of the population, the rest of us need immersion to really learn the language. So the situation is the same from both side. The bilingual ones just did what they have to do and kick their own butt for learning the other language. It’s take me almost 25 years, but I’m almost there. 🙂

      1. I just said what you said in my post. Its obvious you can write in English but can’t understand it completely???What is your point?

  4. I once apply for a job where I had to work with both English and French kids and being extremely qualified and perfectly bilingual, I thought I was going to get it. Instead, they picked two guys who could barely speak french and were less qualified than me only because when member on the selection committee was a family friend. Sometimes it doesn’t matter how qualified you are or how well you can speak both languages. Getting a job is often a matter of luck and politics and that’s a bigger issue to my opinion.

    1. Hi Tom, I’m sorry you were overlooked for hiring based on a friendship, sometimes nepotism can be a problem as well.. It does not even come close to the reality of this situation and to say it does, shows you have the sensitivity of Justin Beiber asking if Anne Frank would have been a Believeber!

  5. Bonjour comment aller vous cette appris midi Cher Anglophones du NB,vois etes pas content car vous Avez pas appris la langue Francaise vous Avez Autant la chance que moi jai appris l’Anglais alors pourquoi la frustration.

Good afternoon dear English people of NB,you guys are angry because the government didn’t educate you in learning the French language ,you guys had the same opportunity I had to learn English in this Provice so what’s the frustration about I learned….

    1. You learned out of necessity, there is no possible way you can function only speaking French in nb or anyplace else. only speaking French you would isolate yourself to a small corner of the world..

    2. It is much easier to learn English in this province than French. The main reason is simply that English is the most predominate language you hear in most cities in New Brunswick. You probably watch most movies and television in English, and hear it most often in the streets. Not to mention that your understanding of the English language is not as scrutinized as an English’s persons, when speaking French. languages are easiest to learn through everyday exposure. As an Anglophone we are simply voicing our concerns about the French Immersion Program as it is now, and the fact that jobs are being labelled “bilingual only” when is may not be necessary. As for the article above, I guess when you’re in a majority and claiming in-equality it is easy to call them racists. You should look at the definition of racism provided above, and compare that to how Anglophones are being treated in this province.

    3. I can guarantee you did not learn enough English in the francophone school you attended to do more with than get by. I do not know you but I could put money on it that perhaps through English friends, English television and maybe even one English parent, is how you learned English. The problem is the government has required very little in terms of teaching children a second language. People can’t just all of a sudden be required to know French because a group of French people decided that’s how it has to be…Je m’appelle Sharon. Est que je peux aller a toilette? I know my early education did not teach me enough French to get anywhere other than the bathroom…

    4. Well thanks for clearing up that confusion. And here I thought I was in 10 years of French Immersion. No wonder my fluency isn’t recognized…

    5. This is a satire news site! Please don’t think it extends to what most people think. The actual facebook page (I can’t believe I it exists) would be a better place for this comment.

  6. this story is a poor choice for the Manatee to mock.

    A few truths:
    – the Facebook group is not anti-bilingualism.
    – there are English, French, AND bilingual people in the Facebook group.
    – the Facebook group is about doing things that make sense in a way that makes sense for taxpayers, both French AND English.
    – the Facebook group is about reducing and eliminating dual systems for French and English. i.e. school buses for English, and for French.
    – no “narrow-minded:” commentary is put up with on the group. Someone always steps in to intervene when this is the case. People have left the group and been ejected from the group when they go against the agreed-upon norms of the group.

Shauna Chase, perhaps the title of this article should be “Manatee writers seek to fan the fires of intolerance by spreading mistruths”.

    1. Shauna Chase this is not funny when it affects thousands of lives, French, bilingual and English alike! Maybe you like paying tax dollars for double everything because of the duality and segregation the government is promoting but we, the members of this group, do not!

  7. Love it, finally an article that clearly states what that facebook group is all about. A bunch of cry baby’s. Hahaha made my day! What a bunch of A-holes.

  8. very good article. I’m English and saw some comments on that Facebook group….yup, they are anti French. They bring shame to all educated city dwelling English NB!

  9. Love you Manatee! Love this article. Very clear these idiots are just a bunch of French haters. Boo boohoo I didn’t get the job. Look in the mirror!!!! Lol

  10. It’s clear that most biggies on that group are ex COR parti supporters and people alliance supporters. Aaaaaaand that would account to less than 2% of the population. I find this group insulting As an English person living in NB. Young uneducated people and mostly old wet blankets makes up this poor group. It’s sad. They a a laughing stock. I have some of my facebook friends on this group and I even think that I’m going to u friend them. I don’t like racist bigots.

    1. Maybe you should become educated. Language is not a “race”, and seeing as ethnic English and French both belong to the Caucasian race, there is no possible way this can be racist. Like I said, maybe you should learn the definition of the big words you use as to not make yourself look stupid in the future.

  11. Wow! Finally a piece on the manatee that actually speak the truth!! I was part of this group because I was curious and I had to leave because it was full of French haters. Of course they love French people…not. Frig. I don’t think by encouraging all their uneducated country living friends to join this crap group will make a difference. I’m English living in fredericton and I have a job! People, STOP relying on government to give you employment!!!!

  12. I don’t like to be considered narrow minded. Just because I don’t know any French people don’t care to ever know one doesn’t make me racist. I hate the French language, doesn’t mean I hate the French people. Ok, I don’t have secondary education but I still deserve a government job. Damn French people. Taking everything. I don’t hate them though…

  13. Mr McBride…please read you statement again, it may give you a better insight as to why you were not hired . “That’s right,” exclaimed McBride. “We’re not against French or anything — we’re just against STUPID POLICIES AND LANGUAGE LAWS that don’t allow us to get the jobs we want with little effort or qualification. There should be fairness in New Brunswick for all the proud citizens of this province who aren’t bilingual and who take a stand against it out of fear and ignorance.” When I read this, You seem to want to be allowed to get jobs with little effort or qualification and you apparently take a stand against bilingualism out of fear and ignorance.
As far as not knowing you would be in a better position to be hired when you were younger, I lived in Saint John from 1975-2001, it has been clear since the late 70’s that bilingualism was going to be a very important asset in the labor market. I am sorry you missed out on a second language but don’t blame policies and language laws. Free choice existed and still does in New Brunswick.

    1. Free choice wasn’t part of our everyday life growing up. Our parents struggled to make ends meet for just an everyday life. There wasn’t any choices for extra learning back then which cost money and there wasn’t any choices later on while raising my 3 children on my own. Deciding whether to eat or learn French…hmmmm! Yes, I know you directed this to Mr. McBride but you are being arrogant and certainly have not read many of the letters on the forum. There are hundreds and hundreds of testimonies from very, very educated people who have the qualifications and a great deal of experience that is worthy anywhere else in Canada except NB and Quebec and that is because of the barrier of the language laws. Thats what needs to be changed!

  14. The whole point about all these discussions and the Facebook group is the fact that new brunswick is making it mandatory to be bilingual. Period, theres no give or take in applying for jobs, because when they know you speak ONLY english or ONLY french your disqualified and they move on to the next person. Now myself I speak only english and regret every day that my parents didn’t know any better to set me up with french too, but its not their fault or my fault. Schools aren’t big enough to hold the amount of students if we were to have every kid in french, clearly we have a few french schools and a few english schools. Maybe they should start there before punishing every other person thats already out of school and cannot afford to pay a couple grand for night school, along with trying to find work, when no one is hiring. The province has been upset about New brunswick workers going out west, or to other areas of the country for work. Well what else are we suppose to do when we are JUST english or JUST french, we have no choice but to adapt to the rules and move to a place that is more open to accept US as who we are. OR we try and fight for what little say we may have. Now personally i can see the welfare percent going up, and also the EI percent too, because lets face it, if you can’t find work and you can’t afford to move thats the next choice. There are so many young parents, middle age parents, and even older parents that are all fighting to make ends meat to support their child to go to school so that they can get a job. But how can they when theres no jobs open because they only speak 1 language. They go on welfare, or EI. Everyones taxes goes up, and the province still sits in a viscous circle because they made a rule or a “law” that is to strict to allow any give to help people out. End of rant

  15. Well…I can make a comment on here that says I’m French and I totally agree with the facebook group and what it is striving for….how about that !! The haters are the French from my observation, certainly not the English and thats because they are on a revenge train that came from back in the 1700’s. Noticably frightened that they will loose what little culture they have left. Unfortunately they are ignorant in regards to being able to understand it well enough to realize that this group is for everyone alike. French and English! And…maybe if they took their time and read what is truely the main objective for this group, then they wouldn’t be so quick to call the members racists, biggots, etc. There is no taking away from anyone, we just want to have equality between the two cultures, which is also our right! We have French and bilingual members also who definetly see there is a huge problem with the way the government is allowing segregation, duality and yes, discrimination to take place amoung New Brunswickers.

  16. I agree with you Jessy, I went on that group and they say they aren’t French haters but all they bitch about is why French people fly their Acadian flag? Wow, what a bunch of idiots. I’d be ashamed to be in that group, but seriously, most people on there are imbrued hicks so what can you expect. I’m anglophone and I approve this comment. 🙂

    1. Pretty easy to throw insults hiding behind a computer with no identity. Bet you wouldnt do that with your full name and contact info up.

  17. Yeah, I saw that group, wow….they really think a small group of 5000 small town Minto trash are going to change something? Oooooo vote for the people’s alliance..hahaha just another COR in sheets clothing.not fooling this anglophone.

  18. Fools thinking They aren’t racist. Wow, they are so ignorant. And if you dare speak against anything they say about the French you get kicked out! Bunch of racist dictators. English male from fredericton here. A lot of English people are against this group, most of them have post secondary education, something most of these people in that group would know nothing about.

    1. No education? Now that’s funny. Maybe you should see the Doctors, Lawyers, PhD’s who are members, oh and I am a Poli sci honors from UNB, and Adult Education student from UNB. Check your facts, and ready what the real page says Ely. Also check the meaning of “racist”, or haven’t you learned that in your “post secondary education” yet?

  19. I knew right away the comment section would be filled with barely literate Albert County folks spouting their 50s era verbal diarrhea when I read the title.
“hurrrr we just want equality! It’s fairer for everyone involved especially us the majority if we remove the French’s linguistic rights durrrrrr go back to France if you want to speak French”

  20. Hahaha look at these bigots go on damage control! Hahaha they think no one is against them, but this anglophone from Moncton is. People against them won’t join the group because it’s embarrassing to be in it.

  21. Im Sure if someone started a group to speak out against this group of morons it would get a lot more than 5000 hits, probably 50000 in no time. COR is dead, deal with it. I’m an Englishman btw, and proud of it, and will stand against this group of racist morons.

    1. It doesn’t matter if we are certified bilingual we are told we aren’t when we go for a job. So you go to school and learn English and then apply and are told your not english enough..pppfffttt yeah like that will ever happen.
And the reason we can go anywhere and find someone who speaks english is because english is the majority yet in NB we are being unfairly ruled by the minority.

  22. Hahahah They don’t hate French people hahaha wow, they obviously have no clue of what hate is. These members are some entitled to think they can just get any job with no education. Come on idiots. It’s not 1950 anymore. Go crawl back under that rock in you’re uneducated towns.

  23. Very true Ken. They are mostly from Albert county and Minto I’m sure. I see a lot of people’s alliance candidates on there posting French hatred. No wonder they only got less than 1% of the votes…lol

  24. Screaming bigots isn’t going to work anyone….sorry. If these groups are being called bigots/old COR, let’s not forget where the Acadian society of NB bigoted roots came from. Pot calling the kettle black eh!?

  25. Most of these people calling you bigot come from am English decent. That’s the point we are trying to make Shawn. Complaining about Acadian flags at French schools has nothing to do with jobs…

  26. I guess the racist group….Acadian society of NB, is just protecting the french language and culture? Right. Anyone one else who dare do that in NB and possibly infringe on the sanb agenda and $$$$ is bigotted/racist. Your joking right.

  27. Well you know you have become a “folk hero” when the manatee satirizes you. The danger in satirizing a delicate topic like this is that people are very sensitive and emotional about this, it’s a shame it wasn’t making fun of a broken system that does nothing to actually help any New Brunswickers in it’s current state regardless of what language they speak. When NB goes bankrupt and paying for two of everything has helped us to get there in a major way, it won’t be very funny. But I am a fan, and am honored that you brought our group into the spotlight, there really is no such thing as bad (free) press. – Jason J. McBride

      1. All this bilinguism is fun and all, but we forget ONE THING : THE FRENCH LOST THE WAR GOOD GAME IT’S OVER. SINCE WHEN ARE THE WINNERS RULED BY THE LOSERS? MAKES NO SINCE AT ALL I TELL YA HWAT

  28. There seems to be a lot of confidence here that the majority of the province supports bilingualism. Well we have never had a province wide vote on this so if people are so sure that bilingualism is accepted by the majority then why not just put it to a vote? Seriously, all you people that are so sure that this group has plateaued and only has ignorant bigoted rednecks… why not just vote ? The results will come in and it would be settled. And yes there are some IDIOTS in the group. Yes there are some French haters in the group that try to keep it to themselves but can’t hide their hate. But there are also well educated people with legitimate concerns. For the record I am anglophone and from Fredericton. I have post secondary education and a great government job. The reason I am against official bilingualism is because of the double payment for everything. It is killing this province. It’s all about money for me. But hey time will tell, let’s just stay on this track it seems to be doing very well so far right? We are the only bilingual province!! I hope being officially bilingual is a huge point of pride for all of you. My self I am much more concerned about becoming the first Canadian province to be officially bankrupt.

    1. Wel why don’t we have a referendum and see what the majority of the province wants? Surely the supports of both side would be willing to accept the outcome….right!!

  29. Oh that’s really nice. Who’s uneducated now. Putting down the town’s from which people have come from? Nasty, nasty, uneducated reply!

    1. It should illegal to call someone uneducated if you still think ” ‘s ” makes a word plural.
Goes to show knowing only one language doesn’t mean you’re more likely to master its basic grammar.

  30. I think that all the personal attacks on either side are senseless and show the immaturity of such people. I am all for equal opportunities, I believe that if you are capable of doing the job you shouldn’t have to be bilingual to get it. Think of those that have worked in a company for years and a job posting comes up, you think you have the job in the bag, you certainly have the qualifications and the years experience, but no you don’t get it and then find out that the person You trained now has the position you were going for, wait for it… because they are considered bilingual and you are not. Now is that fair.

What about the children or maybe your future children that have learning problems, dyslexia, or some other form of learning disability, they are put in french immersion and just can’t master this language, the teachers are telling you that they were struggling before in their said language courses, now in trying to learn a different language you are setting them up for failure. What is the parent to do, continue to push their child into a language which they will undoubtedly not master and if they did get by with some, it still may not be enough to land them a job as someone who is bilingual.

My daughter who graduated with her french immersion has a wonderful job that she loves, she says she speaks french to those patients that are french, she says most can tell she isn’t fluent and will speak to her in english, others will let her continue to speak in french.

One of her interviews that she went on before she got her current job, was down to her and one other girl. They both were equally praised for their work, she went in two or maybe it was three times I can’t quite remember, as part of the interview, she did not get the job the french speaking lady did. Her english was as good as my daughters french.

My oldest son also graduated with his immersion and never uses it but has a very successful career as an electrician. He can understand the language and can speak it but prefers not to as it’s not comfortable for him to.

My other two children started out in immersion but because of the difficulty were pulled out of the immersion classes. One son struggled with depression and struggled because he never felt worthy enough, which was so far from the truth, this made jobs hard for him to get and when he had jobs the pay was low. He was wonderful on computers and we miss his knowledge every day as well as him he was killed in a tragic car accident two years ago. I hurt every time I think of all that he had to endure in his short life, most of all that he was made to feel inferior to others because he wasn’t bilingual. This is not fair and most tragic and yes it makes me furious for him and others that are in his situation today. My youngest son has a job he loves he too couldn’t get through the immersion so did not graduate with his certificate either. Fortunately in his line of work it was not a factor. I thank God for that I couldn’t bear for him to suffer the humiliation and hurt that my other son went through. We may not live in big cities, you may consider us hicks ( that is whatever you think may be hicks, I am not in your head) but I guarantee we are Not stupid people. We want to have our rights just like anyone else does and to not be overturned or overlooked for a position where we could be very beneficial maybe more so then that person that now has the position because they were bilingual, sorry you missed out on the opportunity for me to show you and contribute to.

NB needs every cent it can get stop wasting it and get back to reality!

  31. I see a lot of concern on the fear of change here? I do like the idea of a vote as a democratic society is lead to believe we can have. I am living in New Brunswick, but not born here so I guess I have no real right to speak. The fact I am CANADIAN should not interfere with this right! Some of the facts that concern me are the Language minister calling to bring in more French speaking immigrants instead of educating the population at hand is really bizarre to me. My Family is from French background but I am Canadian! What is all this Anglophone and Francophone crap? I thought maybe being a hick for a reason was good. I don’t like the city so I moved outside making me a dumb uneducated hick I guess. Anyway, I am seeing what is happening in my own area. I don’t worry for me but for my child. I want him to learn French and be more Bilingual in his life and to be more then me. I don’t see this here as it sits. So I guess my neighbors who are ALL French are crazy also? They have told me I need to move (also the school) because my son will not stand a chance here at all. Are they crazy also or just dumb hicks, too? From what I am told as I am not from here again, things need to change or be fixed after 40 years of failing. Being in the right place at the right time for a job does not make you qualified more then another. Having a job for 20 years and then being told you do not qualify to do that job anymore is another.

  32. I though satire was supposed to be funny and required some intellect . This is just dumb, uninteresting and bad writing.

  33. Anyone who thinks that the referendum on bilingualism is a bad idea are probably ones very comfortable with the way things are now in NB. They love having to pay their tax money for double everything which means there is no money left for improvements for health care, hospitals, more Dr’s, jobs, etc. They will very happily sit in the hospital, which they will happily travel further for due to closures, for hours upon hours with their sick and crying children. They will happily go to medical clinics for medical needs because they don’t have a Dr. of their own. They will happily see their children get very poor education. They will happily pay more of their tax money to see French cafe’s come as a necessary item so that French people (maybe 2 out of thousands) may sit and converse in their mother tongue rather than have more hospital beds and nurses. They will happily watch the government promote segregration of our children on school buses. They will happily enjoy the duality and discrimination of very educated and higly experienced people in the work place. They are happy remaining blind to all the suffering of their fellow NB’ers because they think that by wanting to make this province a better one for all of the people in this province, that we are racist, biggots, etc. They are happy their children and grandchildren won’t be able to find work in NB because the language laws deter businesses from being established here. Well, if you people who don’t agree with this group and what we are trying to accomplish, can’t see exactly what your precious government is doing to all of us, then you enjoy your next tax hike, which is not going to give you anything but shallower pockets. You just enjoy the duality, the segregation and the discrimination on both cultures! It makes me really wonder just who the educated people are and who are blind mice! This isn’t about removing linguist rights, it’s about creating equality for both!

  34. maybe if english people would be a bit more open minded u get off ur ass and go out west speak ur english, i’m a proud Acadien Francais and i work in english you guys have got everything serve in english were ever you want in the whole world and complaining you can’t get a job because you dont speak french well Sir, that is your own problem , i dont see why we should accomodate you or anybody else , French immersion that a very good thing but , well its too hard i quit lol , passée une belle journée soyez fière histoire !

    1. LOL nice try at depicting Acadians as something they are not.
I think you meant “passez une belle journée et soyez fiers de votre histoire” but a unlingual anglo like you wouldn’t know so I’ll just give you a 5,5/10. You could have done better

    2. We the majority have been accommodating the minority for long time and paying for it as well we are not complaining just want fair shake

  35. Yes it has been far to long English people stood by in fear of offend French speaking people we have been getting the short end of the stick for far to long it is time to stand together like they do and demand a fair chance this is not about English French it’s about fair chance for all

  36. Poor english people of New Brunswick! Jason McBride, go back to school and learn french. Maybe you could get a job in Montreal! Please people from NB, take a stand and learn as many languages as possible. It will open so many doors to your future.Yes, I am a french NewBrunswicker and learning English opened the world to me. All French people in NB learned English, give it a try you beautiful English
    people!

    1. It doesn’t matter if we learn french..we go to school for years yet when we go to take the tests to prove we are bilingual like our certificates say.. we are told we do not pass!

We want equality for testing and more importantly equality for jobs.

If a french person can get a job barely able to speak English then we should be able to get a job with our certificates of bilingualism.
