Acadian Peninsula — Power has been restored to the Acadian Peninsula following what has been called the worst outage in New Brunswick’s history.
While suffering through nearly two weeks without power, residents became frustrated as the days progressed and the temperatures dropped. However, recent reports have surfaced suggesting that power could have been restored in as little as 36 hours if the New Brunswick Liberals had allowed anglophone linesmen to participate in the effort.
“I’ve been told by the languages commissioner that we have an obligation to our residents to provide service in both official languages,” explained Premier Brian Gallant. “Whether you’re being greeted at NB Liquor with ‘hello/bonjour’ or watching the TV screen at SNB explain how stupid you are for not doing this online, or in this case, waiting for your lights to come back on — all these services fall under the same bilingual umbrella.”
When asked if he thought that requiring all linesmen to be bilingual may have caused some inefficiencies, Gallant responded, “Oh, absolutely! It’s waaay more expensive, too! But, hey, what are ya gonna do?
“It wasn’t just the lack of bilingual linesmen that held up work,” the premier went on, “we also had to return a shipment of transformers that were improperly labelled. They read ‘120/240 volt’ but we needed them to read ‘volt 120/240 volt.’ That took 3 days because we had to buy them from Quebec.”
Katherine D’Entremont braved the cold to do site inspections throughout the ordeal. “My job is to uphold the law,” she stated. “In cases where I found linesmen returning to the ground after making an English repair, I sent them home from the work-site and had the job done again in both languages. It’s only fair.”
Overall, Gallant believes the restoration was a success. “Really, this storm was a blessing in disguise… Justin Trudeau visited and I got a selfie in a bucket truck! How about that for crossing something off the bucket list?!”

I realize that this is the Manatee, so satire, but this isn’t very funny or thought provoking. In fact, many of the linesmen who helped restore power were anglophone, same thing with the army. And you know what? Most people were glad as hell to see them.

There comes a time for common sense. In this case the law of languages over ruled the preservation of life. Shame on you. Mr Gallant what an opportunity for you to show all New Brunswickers they were of equal value and shame on you for falling down. Did you really think that most would prefer to go without essential services and in some cases die over having an anglophone make much needed repairs? I am sorry i cannot believe this. The loss of life falls on you and Ms. Katherine D’Entremont . This will surely be remembered as a dark time in NB history for all.
