New study reveals women find bearded men more attractive – to a point

A study published in October’s issue of The Journal of Scientific Review revealed that 86% of women find bearded men to be sexually attractive — and the hairier, the better.  However, the researchers noted that that only holds true to a certain degree.

Men with beards that too closely resemble a homeless man’s facial hair were deemed less attractive than their lumberjack-looking counterparts.  Two percent of the 1500 women surveyed claimed to still find the hobo-hair handsome, but the psychologists involved in the study pointed out that those women were “hipsters” and were likely “just trying to be cool.”

“So then we told one of them to kiss him if she thinks he’s so hot, and she claimed that her lips were too chapped that day from all her pumpkin spice lattes,” said Dr. Brian Benschowitz, a psychology professor at St. Thomas University.

“Those ones would also think a clean-shaven guy wasn’t attractive, then we’d show them a picture of the same guy with some scruff and they would be practically foaming at the mouth”, added Dr. Benschowitz.

Interestingly, the study found that men with only moustaches and no jaw fur were generally not deemed more attractive, but rather, “creepier.”

“Like a guy who comes up behind you at a bar and softly breathes on your neck instead of saying hello,” explained one participant, shivering and tightly clutching  her cup of David’s Tea.
