Fredericton — After seeing multiple e-scooters on sides of roads, sidewalks, and in driveways and parking lots, local grandmother Judy Vessey has had just about enough.

“I shouldn’t have to look at them all over the place every time I drive to Costco and the post office,” said Vessey. “These kids needs to clean them up. Heaven forbid one day I’m out walking and trip over one and break a hip.”

Not all e-scooter users are kids and teens, said MoVe employee Ryder Jackson. “I’m 35, and even older people use them. They’re tracked by GPS, so they aren’t just ‘lying around’ — they’re waiting for their next rider in convenient places. Anyone who has the app can use them.”

The problem with e-scooters and all e-transportation, if you ask others around the province, is actually that riders tend to speed, don’t wear helmets, don’t follow the rules of the roads and trails, and generally put themselves and others at risk.

Vessey, though, insists the problem is the “mess.”

“When you’re done with something, pick it up and put it back where it belongs — it’s just common courtesy.”
